The REEEA-Alliance is convening a 3-Day workshop for all stakeholders to address Institutional and Policy overlaps contained in various policy document in respect to the Renewable Energy viz a viz the Climate Change Legal Instruments in Nigeria and harmonize same.

The Workshop is scheduled to hold from 23rd and 25th of August 2022.

Pre-Meeting and Sensitization Workshop on RE/EE Policy Review and Harmonization- 21st July 2022

On the 21st of July 2022, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations (REEEA)-Alliance held a Pre-meeting and Sensitization Workshop on the Review and Harmonization of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Climate Change Policies and Laws; in collaboration with the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), the German Solar Corporation BSW – Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e.V., and World Economic Forum. NESP is a technical assistance programme, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power. It aims to enable and foster investments in the domestic market for RE and EE, and to improve access to electricity in disadvantaged, mostly rural areas in Nigeria.

The pre-meeting workshop was a one-day event which centred around discussions with relevant stakeholders on critical topics on existing RE/EE policies to identify issues which will be addressed in a 3-Day Stakeholder Workshop scheduled to hold from 23rd to 25th August 2022.

The event had in attendance critical stakeholders across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies which included the Federal Ministry of Power, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), SUNREF Nigeria, amongst others.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Imamuddeen Talba, Chairman, Steering Committee of the Alliance and anchored by Lande Abudu the Component Lead, Standalone Solar Home Systems (SHS) at Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) and who is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Alliance. The Reviewed RE/EE Policy Report document was presented by Professor Chidi Magnus Onuoha, Vice-Chairman Steering Committee/ Chairman Policy Review Committee.

During the event, there was a launching of the Mobilizing Investments for Clean Energy Nigeria (MICEE) DEEP Dive by the World Economic Forum, which seeks to identify and accelerate investment solutions toward Nigeria’s energy transition.

Upcoming Event:

3-Day Stakeholder Workshop.

Date: 23rd to 25th August 2022

The 3-day workshop will be focusing on the review of various Laws, Regulations and Policies in the clean energy sector, in order to get the opinions and suggestions of various stakeholders both in the public, private and financial Institutions. The workshop aims to tailor the Laws to meet international best practices, eliminate duplicity, harmonize them and ultimately come up with an all-encompassing Law that cuts across Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Transition and Climate Action.

Maiden National Conference 2022

The maiden National Conference of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations (REEEA)-Alliance took place from March 1st to 2nd 2022 at Sheraton Hotels Abuja. The theme of the Conference was: “Optimizing opportunities in the Energy Transition Value Chain”. The Honorable Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu opened the ceremony and delivered the keynote speech.

The two-day event attracted dignitaries such as the Deputy Ambassador of Germany, Martin Huth; Duke Benjamin, Head of Programme, Nigeria Energy Support Programme(NESP), Mr. Christian Moenke, Project Manager, BSW Solar. Also in attendance were Dr Emma Fitzgerald, Independent NED SEPLAT Energy and Expert Adviser to the World Economic Forum (WEF), MS Gina Elisa Lagunes Diaz, Head of the German-Nigerian Hydrogen Office, amongst others. Also in attendance were heads of the critical Ministries, Department, Agencies(MDAs) such as Mr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, MD Rural Electrification Agency(REA); Dr Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, MD/CEO Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) and Engr. Tukur Aliyu MD Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), The Honourable Minister of State Power Hon. Goddy Jedy-Agba and DG, Energy Commission of Nigeria(ECN), Prof Eli Jidere Bala were ably represented. Private sector practitioners, academics, the civil society organization and media, diplomatic corps, development partners, among other numerous participants were in attendance.

This maiden National Conference had six (6) Plenary Sessions and six breakout sessions with Panelists drawn from among the delegates.

Study Tour To The Inter-solar 2021, Organized by its German partner, BSW Solar from 6-8th October 2021.

The REEEA-Alliance delegation attended a study tour to the Intersolar 2021, organized by its German partner, BSW Solar from 6-8th October 2021.

During the tour, delegates met with high ranking representatives from the political sector, civil society, ministries, BSW Solar and its solar member companies as well as a Bavarian renewable energy grassroot initiative. These meetings were very intensive and fruitful.

The REEEA-Alliance team had the opportunity to see first hand, main aspects of the long standing German energy transition movement that inspires the world to follow in its footsteps.

Courtesy Visit to Federal Ministry of Power

The REEEA-Alliance paid a courtesy visit to the Federal MInistry of Power on the 26th of August 2021.The Alliance team was led by the Professor Magnus Onuoha, Vice Chairman of the Steering COmmittee in company of some members of the Steering Committee comprising of members from Member Associations of the Alliance.
The team was received by Engr. Faruk .Y. Yabo, the Ag Director Renewable and Rural Power Access and his team. Engr. Faruk stated the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with the Alliance.
